Jurgen Klopp hints at when Takumi Minamino could debut for Liverpool

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted that forward Takumi Minamino could debut for Liverpool against Everton in the FA Cup.

The Reds triggered Minamino’s £7.25 million release clause last month, which saw the Japan international officially join Liverpool from Salzburg on January 1.

Minamino is not eligible to feature against Sheffield United at Anfield in the Premier League tonight due to registration regulations, but Klopp has hinted the forward could make his debut against Everton in the FA Cup next Sunday.

“This time we are not allowed but from the next moment on we are thinking about putting him in the squad,” Klopp told the media.

“In this period of the season especially, there will not be 15 weeks until we use him. Is he then the finished article in March? I don’t know.

“We signed the player, he was at Salzburg, so he doesn’t have to change in the moment, just be who you are and then we start working on that and I am looking forward to it.

“That’s what the little talk we had, we really signed Takumi Minamino from Salzburg, the guy who played against us like crazy. Just be that and everything will be fine.

“We have some of the best players in the world, but we didn’t bring him in to accept like ‘I am number five, six, seven or eight’.

“We start learning about each other from now on. He will have all the time he needs, but how much time he needs I have no idea.”

It would be exciting to see Liverpool’s new signing in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.

Virgil van Dijk, who signed for Liverpool back in January 2018, also made his debut against Everton in the FA Cup. The centre-back scored the winner, which could a be a good omen for Minamino.

It is ridiculous to think that Minamino has only cost Liverpool £7.25 million. For a player that has excelled in the Champions League this season for Salzburg, this is a superb bit of business by the Reds.

As he is only 24 years old, he has plenty of football ahead of him. He gives the Reds depth in attack, and considering how taxing the second half of the season will be, he could prove more than handy from the bench. Hopefully he can have an impact against the Toffees.
