The 22-year-old winger has had an excellent week so far.

It’s been an excellent week for Rinsola Babajide, and for Liverpool Women as a result. The week started off with the 22-year-old winger receiving her first call up to the senior England camp and ended with a decisive 3-0 victory for the Reds against the London Bees, with Babajide netting an excellent goal in the second half. The Reds will be spending the next weekend on international break, and Babajide spoke to the club’s official website earlier this weekend about how excited she is to join the 30-player training camp.

“It was a really proud moment for myself and my family,” she said. “It’s an honour to be called up and these are the moments I play football for, to play with the best of the best. I know a few of the players from playing with England at U18, U19, and U20s level, and I’ve also played against some of them. I’m also looking forward to seeing Niamh [Charles] again.” Charles played for Liverpool until this summer when she left for FAWSL powerhouse, Chelsea.

“I want to be like a sponge and go there and learn from the more experienced players, but I’m there as a competitor to work hard and show them what I can do,” Babajide added. “I want to cement my place and make sure I can get in the next squad and the one after that.”

Beyond it just being an excellent opportunity for Babajide, the fact that Liverpool players are being recognised and added to their respective national teams is an incredibly important step forward in rebuilding the side and working towards promotion. Fingers crossed the club sees this and invests in their success.
