Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Continue to Seek Shaqiri and Wilson Sales

The club will be actively trying to find a home for their remaining fringe players in January.

When the transfer window slammed shut on Monday, the Reds had failed to shift three fringe first team players and were left with one too many foreign senior players, forcing the loan of Marko Grujic to FC Porto to avoid a situation where the Serb would be stuck with the U23s this season.

However, even with Grujic’s departure, that leaves the club with Xherdan Shaqiri and Harry Wilson—both with space in the squad, in Wilson’s case thanks to the fact he’s homegrown, but with neither expected to be regulars in the matchday squad barring a slew of injuries in the coming months.

As a result, The Daily Star and others today claim the club will spend the next two-and-a-half months actively looking for permanent transfers for the duo in the hopes they can be placed at new clubs for £25M and £20M respectively when the January transfer window opens.

In the meantime, the two players will train with the first team and with a few injuries or coronavirus absences and some hard work could perhaps still have a future at the club—but it does seem likely that early January departures would be best for all parties if interested buyers can be found.
