For safety, the players could not physically visit the children’s hospital.

It’s not the holiday season until until we get our yearly video of the Liverpool players visiting Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. This year, because of COVID-19, the visit looks a bit different, but they still found a way to make a fun memory for these children.

Like everything else in 2020, the visit went virtual with the computer screens getting rolled into the rooms and the players communicating with the children and their families that way. The machines are called ‘telemedicine robots’, which is just cool all on its own. The technology is used in the hospital to lessen the need for physical contact when giving treatments.

So no pictures of the players holding babies and getting hugs. Just another little joy that has been robbed from us because of the pandemic. There is plenty of cuteness though, and the children all seem genuinely thrilled to meet their football heroes.

All the players are good about it, but Andy Robertson in particular is wonderful. He looks so happy to be there and to interact with the children. One parent tells him that a girl’s surgery went well, and he reacts as though she just ran a marathon.

This time of year, we are always reminded of what a good group of players we have on the team.
