It’s been a rough year for a lot of people, but at least Liverpool won the Premier League and also now 2020 is over which is nice.

To call 2020 a difficult year would be an understatement, what with there being a global pandemic that if you’re one of the lucky ones has meant a long time stuck isolated at home and not able to see friends and extended family.

Not that it’s been all bad, at least for Liverpool fans, with the club breaking a three-decade domestic title drought and winning the Premier League. Also, when you get up tomorrow 2020 will be over and a new year begun. So that’s nice, too.

And so with the year ending, Liverpool’s players took to social media to send off a year of mostly very bad—and one thing definitely very good—and to hope for a 2021 that will be a little more positive in all the ways 2020 wasn’t.

“It’s been a year with mixed emotions,” said midfielder Gini Wijnaldum in his send off to the calendar year. “It hasn’t turned out as anyone expected but there have been some moments that I will cherish forever.”

“Not the way we wanted to end the year,” noted Andy Robertson after the Reds dropped points in their final game of 2020. “It’s not been the easiest but we hope we made you all smile in an incredibly tough year.”

“Happy New Year to all of you,” read Virgil van Dijk’s message. “Hope all your dreams and New Year’s resolutions come true in 2021. Let’s bring more love, peace, and happiness in the world. Treat people the way you want to be treated, see you soon!”

The year 2020. It was mostly terrible but now it’s finally over. And there were some good parts to it. Especially if you were a Liverpool fan. So. Hopefully 2021 will bring more of those good parts and a few less of the bad ones.
