Jordan Henderson: “It’s Very Nice To Get Back On The Score Sheet!”
He doesn’t score often, but when he does, he makes it count.
Captain Jordan Henderson sealed the win on Wednesday night against AC Milan at Anfield with a drill of a goal off a Milan defender’s clearance and boy, was it a sight.

After going behind by a goal in a frantic fifteen minute spell in the first half, the Reds came back with a vengeance in the second half, with Mohamed Salah scoring the equalizer and Henderson scoring the winner - even earning him the distinction of UEFA’s Man of the Match.
“Yeah, it’s very nice to get back on the scoresheet!” Henderson said to the club website.
“It’s been a while so it’s always nice to score a goal and if I’m going to be playing a little bit further forward in that position I think I need to be chipping in with a few more goals as well. So it was nice to get on the scoresheet and find the winner.”
Henderson’s last Champions League goal came against PFC Ludogorets Razgrad during that failed 2014-15 campaign, over 2,000 days ago. So yes, a long time. As he mentioned, though, if he is going to be playing a bit more forward - and with uninjured defenders not requiring him to move back again - hopefully we’ll see more of his goals. For now, Henderson is just happy to help the team start this year’s Champions League campaign strong.
“First game, you want to take three points and get on them on the board early, especially at home, so we’ve got to be really pleased with that.
“But again, I think the performance level for 70-75 minutes was very good and we just need to learn about that 10-15-minute spell and make sure that doesn’t happen too often otherwise you’ll get punished at this level.”
Milan certainly came to play at a place like Anfield and were ready to pounce on any mistake that Liverpool made - even nearly making the Reds fight for the win a second time in those last ten minutes.
“Yeah, we made hard work of the game but you’ve got to give credit to Milan. They’re a good side, good players, and when you’re not quite at it in a spell in a game, you get punished at this level and they did that,” Henderson agreed.
“But I thought the boys reacted so well in the second half… we kept going, kept fighting and managed to find a couple of goals to win the game, so overall delighted with the result.”
Hopefully this energy carries through the season, with Crystal Palace ahead on the weekend. Another Hendo goal for that would be nice to but this Hendo fan won’t get her hopes up either.
