Jürgen Klopp says that Liverpool should have two of their injured midfielders back in the squad on Wednesday.

Liverpool will be without injured midfielders James Milner and Naby Keïta when they face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening at Anfield in the Champions League but Fabinho Tavares and Thiago Alcantara are in contention.

That was manager Jürgen Klopp’s message at his pre-match press conference ahead of the match, with the Liverpool boss confirming that at least two of his injured midfield players looked good after returning to training this week.

“Naby has a hamstring injury so will be out a while,” Klopp noted when asked about the injury situation. “Apart from that, Millie it’s clear no but Fabinho and Thiago trained completely normally and are in contention.

“It is good, obvious, it’s very helpful but we will see. Injuries are completely normal, as long as they are not too harsh, and we have to accept that. The players will be back, hopefully soon, and then they will be in contention again as well.”

In contention may not mean fit to start for either Fabinho or Thiago, but it should at least provide Klopp with some strong options off the bench when otherwise he would be counting on youth players to change up his midfield.

Against Brighton over the weekend, Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones started the match for the Reds while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was forced into action in the first half when Keïta couldn’t continue due to his hamstring issue.
