Rumour Mongering: Hincapie Tops List of Defensive Targets
The rumours are flying in from all directions as transfer season is quickly approaching again.
Piero Hincapie, the 21-year-old Ecuadorian centre-back who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, was linked Liverpool FC in the rumour mill over the summer. However, the Reds clearly felt reinforcements in midfield were more critical.
Could a move be back on the cards in the transfer window? Potentially.
In an interview with YouTube channel Futbol Sin Casette, Manuel Sierra, the player’s agent confirmed that Liverpool were indeed interested in the Hincapie:
“Liverpool were interested in him.“But, at that time, they chose to invest in the midfield.”
In a piece about Fulham’s pursuit of André for the Evening Standard, Chelsea beat reporter Nizar Kinsella mentions that Liverpool are looking at defensive options instead.
The expected going price for Hincapie is £50 million.
Should Liverpool find that price to be too high, there’s another left-sided centre-back option in Sao Paulo’s Lucas Beraldo, who was in the rumours last week. 19-year-old Beraldo is said to be attainable for around £20 million.
