Italian reports claim Juventus’ attempts to sign Thuram are running up against a Liverpool-shaped obstacle.

With Liverpool completing the signings of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch last summer, to most the club appeared more than stocked for the future at the more advanced midfield positions.

Longer term there are some who will argue more defensive-minded reinforcements are still needed, but to most there would appear little room for a player like Khéphren Thuram. Most, though, doesn’t include Tuttomercatoweb.

In the midst of growing rumblings in recent weeks that Thuram could head to Juventus, or perhaps remain in France by making the switch to PSG, Tutto’s Juve outlet has come out to claim that Liverpool remain frontrunners.

The Italian club, they claim, will have have a hard time matching the £45M Liverpool are willing to pay to complete the signing of Thuram. We are, to put it mildly, skeptical that Liverpool are in fact prepared to pay £45M for Thuram.

Last summer, they spent considerable time trying to talk his club, Nice, down from that sort of a valuation, and by most accounts it was the fact they didn’t value him at that price that led to them signing the pricier Szoboszlai.

Given how well Szoboszlai as well as Gravenberch and Mac Allister have adjusted, it’s hard to see them returning to now pay more than they were willing to spend on Thuram last summer. But best of luck to Juventus in negotiations.
