It was a very sweet gesture.

Liverpool FC players Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones had a sweet bromance moment after their 5-1 Carabao Cup win against West Ham United last night.

Both players managed to get on the score sheet, with Gakpo notching a goal and Jones nabbing himself a brace. Jones was presented with the Man of the Match award for his efforts.

After handing over a bottle of bubbly during their joint-post-game interview, Gakpo took time out to praise Jones:

“Santa is coming early! I have a quick word. Very proud of you. You are working really hard, nobody sees it obviously, because it is behind closed doors but you deserve all the best. Keep going brother!”

Back at the studio, presenter Mark Chapman was somewhat surprised and remarked:

“I’m not sure I have ever seen that. I really like that! That shows that spirit within them and the spirit within the squad.”

Former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp also chimed in:

“Let’s see that more! I think it’s quite nice.”

It’s lowkey hilarious because Gakpo is only less than two years older than Jones, but as the former captain of PSV Eindhoven at a really young age himself, he knows what’s needed to elevate those around him.

Team spirit and cohesion have always been a feature of successful Jürgen Klopp sides and this one is no different. After the disappointing draw over the weekend, the feel-good vibes are truly back in full force. Onwards to Arsenal on Sunday.
