Andy Robertson Reflects On Setting Scotland Record
The Liverpool left back set a record for his country after serving as captain for the 49th time.
While Liverpool only have on club captain at any given time, they have built a squad filled with leaders. Many of these players have served as captains for their national teams on a regular or semi-regular basis.
Liverpool left back Andy Robertson is one such player. The garrulous Scot has been the captain for his national team for much of his senior international career. On Friday, Robertson set the record for Scotland after captaining his side for the 49th time. He surpassed the tally set by George Young in the 1950s. Robertson took to social media after the match to reflect on the moment.
“To captain Scotland once was a dream come true. To surpass the record set by the great George Young is surreal and humbling.”
“I am so grateful to Alex McLeish for having the faith in me to do it in the first place and of course to Steve Clarke for his continued support.”
Scotland have now completed their warm up matches ahead of the Euros. The Tartan Army will kick off the tournament next Friday against Germany. Robertson stated that he and the squad are ready to put it all out there this summer.
“We are ready, you are ready, let’s go and give it everything we’ve got.”
