Alisson on Overcoming PSG Defeat: “Now We Have to Keep Going”

Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday was tough but the Reds must get past it quickly with domestic silverware on the line.
Liverpool took a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield, and by any measure they improved on their first leg performance.
Against Europe’s in form side over the last few months they weren’t always the better side—but they seemed good enough to get the result they needed. Only in the end, they didn’t get that result.
PSG were up 1-0 after regulation, the tie level 1-1 through extra time, and then the Ligue 1 side advanced on penalties, the Parisians confident and composed while the Merseyside Reds stumbled.
“We improved a lot in respect of the first game, that’s a good thing,” reflected goalkeeper Alisson Becker, looking for silver linings in a defeat that knocks the top side in the Premier League out of Europe.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t get the result, but we have to recognise the opponent are a really good team. It’s tough to take it because we know we could do more but we have no time to complain
“We have play a final on the weekend and must keep on going in the Premier League. You just have to recognise the strength of the opponent, and now we have to keep going for the rest of the season.”
It’s a tough ending in Europe for the Reds, knowing you were one of the best sides in the competition and feeling you did enough to get a result on the night but coming up short. It’s a deflating end.
The players need to put that behind them quickly with a League Cup final at Wembley against Newcastle set for Sunday, but it will be hard not to look to the Champions League now and wonder what if.
