Ryan Gravenberch Returns from Netherlands Duty Due to Injury

The Liverpool midfielder has been sent home by his national team due to an unspecified injury said to have been picked up against Newcastle on the weekend.
When Sunday’s League Cup final ended in disappointment for Liverpool not just due to the 2-1 scoreline in favour of opponents Newcastle but because the Reds had put in one of their least effective b ig game performances in recent memory, many focused in on a seemingly exhausted Ryan Gravenberch.
The 22-year-old is closing in on 4,000 minutes played for Arne Slot after recording around 1,800 last season and 900 the year before at Bayern Munich, and as the total minutes have ticked up in 2025 his performance levels have dropped following an autumn when he was the Premier League’s standout midfielder.
Now, he’s heading home from international duty, having been dismissed by the Netherlands who stated Gravenberch was still carrying a knock picked up against Newcastle: “The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend that prevents him from playing in the matches against Spain.”
Hopefully the early return will mean a few days off for the standout young midfielder not just to recover from the unspecified injury but also perhaps to rest and recover a bit of stamina for the final two months of the season as Liverpool push to secure domestic title number twenty.
