Szoboszlai Says Liverpool “Ready to Fight” in League Cup Final

Liverpool will have to put their disappointments over Tuesday’s Champions League defeat behind them in a hurry with the League Cup final set for Sunday.
Liverpool’s Champions League campaign may have ended in disappointment on Tuesday evening, but there isn’t any real time to linger on it with a League Cup final set for Wembley on Sunday against Newcastle United.
For the Reds, the reaction will be key. Find a way to channel frustrations over how their European campaign ended and take those out on Newcastle and it will set the stage for a coronation run in the Premier League. Stumble, and it will feel as though the season might just be starting to unravel.
“We are ready to fight,” was star midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai’s message ahead of the match. “You never know who is going to play, but it doesn’t matter—everybody is ready to fight and everybody is ready to give everything.
“It’s a final, so you go in a different way into the game. It doesn’t matter who is playing, the most important is that everybody’s goal is the same, just focus on the team [and] hopefully that can make us special, that we have the whole squad, the 25 players.”
Liverpool’s players may be tired after their tie against Paris Saint-Germain went all the way to penalties mid-week, but opponents Newcastle will be without four key players with Sven Botman, Lewis Hall, and Jamaal Lascelles all ruled out through injury while Anthony Gordon is suspended.
Last week, Liverpool and the fans were feeling bullish about their treble hopes. Now, the Champions League is off the table. Hopefully they can make a League Cup statement and then turn the final two months of the season into a league title celebration.
