Liverpool vs West Brom – FA Cup 4th Round: Match Preview

Liverpool face West Brom on Saturday evening in an FA Cup fourth round clash at Anfield. The Reds are desperate for a trophy this season having not won a one since lifting the League Cup in 2012, and see the FA Cup as a trophy  they’re capable of winning this season.

Liverpool are looking to bounce back from Monday night’s 1-0 defeat to Swansea which ended our long unbeaten run of 18 games, our longest under Jurgen Klopp come to an end at the Liberty stadium, and will be hoping to confirm their place in the 5th round draw with a win against West Brom tomorrow night.

The Reds knocked out rivals Everton in the last round with a late winner from debutant Virgil Van Dijk at the Kop end saw Liverpool win 2-1 and enter the draw for the fourth round.

West Brom knocked out League 2 opposition Exeter City in round three, Solomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez scored the goals in the first half to win the tie for the Baggies.

Last time the Baggies came to Anfield, they came away with a point as Liverpool were unable to breakdown their resilient defence and it finished in a 0-0 draw.

With this match being a cup tie, it’s unlikely that Alan Pardew will ‘park the bus’ as much as he did that night on Saturday.

Klopp told the press this afternoon that Adam Lallana is out of Saturday’s cup clash with West Brom with a slight muscle tear, joining Klavan (muscle) and James Milner (dead leg) on Liverpool’s list of absentees.

Klopp also confirmed that Simon Mignolet will start tomorrow and that Daniel Sturridge who is surrounded with speculation of a move away from the club in this window, may return to the squad tomorrow

Tomorrow evening’s tie is the first time VAR (Video Assistant Referee) will be used at Anfield. Craig Pawson has been appointed as the referee for this fixture and Andre Marriner is behind the VAR.

It’s the 150th fixture between the two sides with a lot at stake as the winner books a place in the next round of the FA Cup.
