Official: Daniel Sturridge Completes West Brom Loan Move

The Liverpool striker will spend the second half at the season with West Brom.

Daniel Sturridge has had some fantastic moments as a Liverpool player since arriving at the club in 2013 from Chelsea in a £12M deal, but a string of injuries saw the striker robbed of some of his pace and made it increasingly difficult for the club to rely on him as a regular contributor.

The result was a falling down the depth chart, a sad situation that reached its nadir this season as he fell to fourth in the pecking order. Still just 28 years of age, it was clear Sturridge needed to move on—needed to find a new home where he might just have a chance at reviving his career.

Today he found that home, ending up at West Bromwich Albion. It is a loan deal that will see Sturridge play for the Baggies for the remainder of the season. The expectation, though, is that no matter how well the loan goes, this marks the end of his time at Liverpool.

Throughout the January transfer window Sturridge attracted interest from Sevilla, Inter Milan, and towards the end Newcastle and West Brom. For a time, a deal to take him to Newcastle was even said to have been done, and that club are now said to be incensed at the end result.

That end result, though, joining West Brom to be close to his home and family and to play in a two-striker system, is Sturridge’s choice. Hopefully it brings him some of the success he deserves and has struggled to find in recent seasons at Anfield.
