Klopp: “The softest touch in the game decides the game”

It was a disappointing finale to Sunday evening’s crunch clash with Tottenham Hotspur when Harry Kane converted a last minute penalty to ensure the match finished 2-2.

After missing a penalty earlier on when he was deemed to have been brought down by Loris Karius, Harry Kane made no mistake to convert the second in front of the Kop.

Both penalty calls were extremely controversial and Klopp was very careful with his words after the game but his anger and disappointment with the officials still shone through.

Klopp: “It was obviously not the referee’s day.”

“Was the second one wasn’t a penalty? No. And the referee should have been overruled by his assistant? No.”

“Kane is offside when the pass goes through (for the first penalty). I don’t know what the referee and assistant were talking about.”

“Tottenham are a good side. We could have done better in the 2nd half. It was intense. But they didn’t create many chances. In the end it was clear it will be a close result, that’s what we got. We have to accept it.”

“The 2nd penalty – in the 93rd minute, you whistle the penalty when you are 100% sure. It is clear in the situation like that the opposition side want to go down.”

“The softest touch in the game decides the game.”

Liverpool remain in third 2 points above Tottenham in fifth but the Reds could drop to fourth if Chelsea beat Watford on Monday night football tomorrow evening.

Mohammed Salah twice put Liverpool ahead, one in the second minute as he was quickest to react after a poor pass from Eric Dier. It was a very good defensive approach to the game from the Reds and it took a very good strike from Victor Wanyama to beat Loris Karius who had undoubtedly his best game in a Liverpool shirt.

Jon Moss pointed to the spot in the 89th minute afternoon Karius was deemed to have fouled Kane, but the England international saw his penalty saved by Karius and Van Dijk outstandingly managed to block Lamela’s rebound.

An outstanding solo goal from Mo Salah put Liverpool ahead in stoppage time but their was more drama still to come. Jon Moss waved away penalty appeals after a collision in the area between VVD and the Argentinian but this time chose to change his decision and agree with the linesman who concluded that Van Dijk had fouled the Tottenham winger.

Harry Kane made no mistake this time and got his 100th goal of the season. Klopp was clearly frustrated after the game, as was every Liverpool supporter and spoke for us all when he said about the second penalty.

Klopp: “If I say what I think I will have to pay the biggest fine in world football.”

A frustrating game for us Reds but we remain in the top 4 with 12 PL games to go
