Klopp Talk: Salah Substitution “Was Tactical”

The manager discusses the Egyptian’s performance, but says he is not concernec

Mohamed Salah hasn’t scored 500 goals in the first seven league games of the season and everyone is writing him off.

The Egyptian has only scored three goals so far. His expected goals are a fair amount better, so chances are normal service resumes sooner or later. For now, though, Jurgen Klopp is going to be asked a lot of questions on it, especially after he substituted Salah during the draw against Chelsea.

“[the substitution] was tactical, he was not injured”, The Liverpool Echo report Klopp as saying. “It was not Mo’s best game of his career, 100%.

“But coming in a game like this, constantly in situations like he comes in, that makes a world class player. You fail, you miss, whatever, that happens. No problem with that.

“But I want him so that he wants to be decisive, to score in these situations. You could see the first ball he missed a bit it was not in the right position, and the next ball he passed! Why? He could have shot.

“It’s like riding a bike. It’s not that you wake up in the morning and you can’t finish and you can’t ride a bike any more. That’s how it is.

“You need to work for these moments when it’s clicking. That’s the period he’s in, no problem with that.”

Speaking also about the wealth of options at his disposal, Klopp added that “as long as the boys are fit, we have a good squad,” he said. “And we have good boys who are not even in the squad at the moment.

“That’s how I said, not too nice for the boys but good times for us! Hopefully it stays like this, because then we will be prepared for a hard fight. If not, then it’s a bit more difficult.”

Salah is a top player going through a rough finishing patch. Let’s just all relax and get a drink, and it’ll all shake out as normal soon enough.
