‘No need to worry’ about Mane and Milner contracts

Liverpool remain hopeful of tying Sadio Mane down to a new long-term contract and are in no rush to extend James Milner’s deal, according to the Echo‘s James Pearce.

After convincing Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to commit their long-term futures to the club, the Reds looked to ward off any interest in Mane, the final member of their revered front three, by handing him a bumper new deal.

Liverpool, Pearce says, made it clear to Mane’s agent that they were willing to boost his wages to put him amongst the club’s top earners.

The talks have yet to lead to an agreement, but it is understood that the player is happy at Liverpool, having flourished since joining from Southampton in 2016.

Mane signed a five-year contract on his arrival, so there is no cause for concern for the time being.

Midfielder James Milner, meanwhile, is said to be under contract until the summer of 2020.

Milner has been one of his side’s top performers in recent times and Pearce suspects that the club will seek to prolong his stay on Merseyside if he maintains his excellent form.

For the moment, though, all parties are thought to be ‘relaxed about the situation’.
