All Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp Want Is for Mohamed Salah to Relax

Some in the press are making a big deal about Salah not scoring at the rate he ended last season on. Klopp’s not worried.

Mohamed Salah will be key to Liverpool’s success—tonight against Napoli, on the weekend against Manchester City, and through to the end of the season. Jürgen Klopp wants people to know that. And he wants Salah to just relax and focus on playing the game.

“Be relaxed, completely relaxed, because there is no need for anything else,” Klopp told reporters when asked if he’d talked to Salah about the pressure to keep up last season’s scoring pace when he scored 32 times in the league and 44 in all competitions.

Despite some talk of Salah’s form being off, he’s only one goal off the pace he started last season on. More than that, even if he’s not putting away his chances like he did at the end of last season, he’s making they right runs and getting high quality chances.

With Salah playing well and doing the right things as far as Klopp is concerned, there will be no pressure from the team for him to do anything other than to relax—even if some on the outside will want to try to make an issue out of a relative lack of goals.

“The quality is there and so everything is fine,” Klopp added. “There’s nothing that I can tell you [about specifics] because that’s between us like always, but it was absolutely clear that we would stand in a situation like this here and talk about it.

“Even Harry Kane, he scored two last week, but before that people were saying ‘he’s not half the Harry Kane of last year.’ For us, it’s completely cool. Even if Mo had scored 30 already he would want 31—so that is disappointing for a player, but that’s all.”
