Liverpool Internationals See Victory on Monday
Updates from Monday’s action.
Monday was a good day for the Liverpool internationals who haven’t come limping home yet. Joe Gomez continues his impressive rise in stature this season, getting a full 90 minutes in defense when England played against Spain in Seville on Monday. The Three Lions overcame La Roja 3-2 to snag a win in the UEFA Nations League.
Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold got a bit of a run out at the end when he came on as a late substitute in the 85th minute. Jordan Henderson was disqualified due to suspension and so didn’t feature, to literally no Liverpool fan’s dismay.
Xherdan Shaqiri notched an assist for Switzerland in their UEFA Nations League game against Iceland in Reykjavik on Monday. Liverpool’s newest midfielder helped guide his team to a 2-1 victory in that match by providing the cross that led to Michael Lang’s 67th minute winner.
Elsewhere, the best defender in the world, and Liverpool’s biggest brate, Dejan Lovren, put in a solid 45 minutes in Croatia’s 2-1 home victory over Jordan. Lovren was substituted at the half, in a move that appeared to be pre-planned to give the newly-fit defender a break.
With Sadio Mané, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah all returned to Melwood with various injury concerns, that leaves only a few Liverpool players who still have a game to play on Tuesday before returning back to Merseyside. Cross your fingers for Alisson, Gini Wijnaldum, and Naby Keïta now.
