Merseyside Police and Liverpool F.C. will launch major security operation at Anfield tomorrow

A major security operation will take place in Liverpool tomorrow as Red Star Belgrade come to town to play Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Champions League.

Uefa punished the Serbian club, stopping them from selling tickets for the next two away matches to supporters, following a pitch invasion at their play-off fixture at Salzburg in August.

Despite the punishment, 1,000 Red Star fans turned up for their Champions League away fixture at Paris Saint-Germain in September.

Many of the travelling support found their way into the home end as trouble flared in the French capital.

Uefa subsequently charged Red Star for both disturbances outside the Parc des Princes and for illicit chanting inside it.

Additional Police Officers will be on duty before the match, while Merseyside Police are working with their counterparts in Serbia in a bid to ensure the game goes ahead without trouble.

Liverpool F.C. Stewards have been advised to be on the lookout for Red Star Belgrade support tomorrow night in any of the home sections.
