Rumour Mongering: Divock Origi Is Galatasaray’s Top Striker Target
We’re a little skeptical but it would be nice if this turned out to be true.
When the summer transfer window closed with Divock Origi still at Liverpool, there was little doubt that it was the worst possible outcome for all parties—there was simply no room for the 23-year-old at the club, and he needed to move on to have a chance of developing.
The striker did the right thing, saying he’d put his head down and work to earn a role at Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, but after a massively disappointing season on loan and stuck behind at least Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge the situation always looked bleak.
Now, Galatasaray could be ready to offer him a January lifeline, with Turkish sport daily Fanatic claiming he’s manager Fatih Terim’s number one striker target and with the Istanbul club supposedly desperate to reinforce their attacking options mid-season.
More than that, Terim is said to want certainty—he wants a January deal for Origi done before the transfer window opens so that the striker will be available from the earliest possible moment. If true, it would be very good news for both the payer and Liverpool.
Of course, when it comes to Turkish reports of interest in Liverpool players, a healthy degree of skepticism is required. Rumours of supposedly serious interest are exceedingly common and they very rarely amount to anything when it’s all said and done.
In the end, though, Loris Karius did make his move to Besiktas last summer. Maybe, just maybe, Origi—whose current Liverpool deal runs through 2020—will be following him to the Super Lig this January.
