Rumour Mongering: Ryan Kent Happy to Stay at Rangers?

The young winger seems to be happy at Steven Gerrard’s club.

With a certain Steven Gerrard to learn from, Ryan Kent seems to be enjoying life north of Hadrian’s Wall at Rangers. The 21 year old has settled well at Ibrox, becoming an important cog in Gerrard’s side. And it sounds like the Liverpool loanee would be happy to make the move permanent.

“[A permanent move is] something I’d consider. Definitely”, Kent told the aptly named Scottish newspaper The Scotsman. “The fans are amazing here. The club has a lot of history. It’s an amazing club, but that’s a conversation they will have to have with Liverpool – not me.

“The fans seem to really enjoy players getting forward, that suits my identity as a footballer. I really enjoy picking the ball up, dribbling at defenders and getting past them.

“When the fans are right behind me, it gives me confidence to do that.

“It was incredible on Thursday night [in the Europa League win against Rapid Wien]. It was the best atmosphere I have ever played in. The fans were definitely the 12th man. They got behind us the whole game and that’s what drove us to get the win in the end”.

Kent is right when he says that his future is ultimately in Liverpool’s hands. As disgusting as it is to talk of a human being this way, in the eyes of the club Kent is an asset, though his value is for debate. Looking around at Liverpool’s loanees, the arguably higher end talents of Ben Woodburn and Harry Wilson were sent to the English Championship. For Kent and Ovie Ejaria to go to Scotland does imply that they may not be in Klopp’s long term plans, though these things can obviously change.

It’s not as common as we’d like for players to really feel at home at a club they’re loaned out to. Kent clearly feels as though Rangers is a good fit for him. If he is to leave Liverpool, which feels like it will happen, Ibrox might be the place for him.
