Manchester City Head Physio Joins Liverpool Football Club

The Reds were filling the void left by Matt Konopinski.
Liverpool have raided the backroom staff of the current title holders, Manchester City, and hired their head physio Lee Nobes to fill the shoes of Matt Konopinski. Konopinski left the Reds last month when he accepted a job working for the Football Association.
Nobes got his start at Oldham Athletic before making the jump to Manchester City in 2007. He is seen as quite the catch for Liverpool, having served at Manchester City well for 11 years — Kevin de Bruyne’s weak knees notwithstanding — before eagerly making the switch to Merseyside. Sunday’s Manchester derby was his final game with City.
He will begin his Liverpool tenure soon, likely transitioning into the role once the majority of the players return from international duty. Nobes will work with Klopp, as well as the other members of the fitness staff, including Kloppleganger Andreas Kornmayer, Andrew Massey, and Philipp Jacobsen.
It probably goes without saying, but an exceptional fitness staff is key to any team sustaining a title challenge through the long and arduous winter months. This is true generally, but especially in a system like Klopp’s which demands so much of the players physically.
It remains to be seen how well this works out for the team, but it’s nice to see proof that the club isn’t just focused on bringing quality onto the pitch but into the backroom as well.
