According to the transfer chatter, the Bournemouth left back has his heart set on a Merseyside move.

While it won’t help to solve their looming likely hole at right back, Liverpool have for some time now been expected to sign a new left back this summer, and one of the names the chatter has coalesced around is that of 21-year-old Bournemouth talent Milos Kerkez.

In recent weeks there have been suggestions of solidifying Liverpool interest and of a potential £40M price tag, and now the rumour mongers are claiming that Kerkez is letting people around him know that Liverpool is his preferred destination for the coming summer.

In addition to the chance to move to one of Europe’s top clubs, play in the Champions League, and challenge for domestic honours, the presence of national team teammate Dominik Szoboszlai is said to play a role in Kerkez’ desire to join the Merseyside Reds.

Kerkez plays a tenacious, high-energy game on the left and so far in his career has appeared more suited to staying wide, charging up the pitch, and whipping in crosses to support the attack rather than drifting centrally and involving himself in the build-up.

That has led some to question his profile for a Liverpool side that in recent seasons both under Jürgen Klopp and now Arne Slot has increasingly involved its fullbacks in buildup play and asked them to make underlapping, box-supporting runs in the attacking third.

His talent as a slightly more traditional fullback can’t be denied, though, and if he in fact does join up this summer most will expect him to battle Andy Robertson for minutes next season while Kostas Tsimikas would be expected to depart the club for playing time.
