Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed that Jurgen Klopp was behind the decision for him to take the the set piece that saw him notch his fourth senior goal for the Reds at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool were leading Watford by a goal to nil in the 75th minute, before winning a free-kick 25 yards from goal.

Mohamed Salah stood over the ball alongside Alexander-Arnold, who bagged a beautiful free-kick from a similar position against Hoffenheim in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League last season.

Though Salah already had a goal to his name – his sixth in three appearances against Watford – and the confidence that came with it, free-kick duty was in the hands of the defender per the boss’s orders.

“Before the game, me, Hendo, Millie, everyone was joking about who would take it,” Alexander-Arnold told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I think Hendo wants one so he stepped up with the ball in his hand. Then he passed it to me because the gaffer said before the game that me and Shaq would be on them.

“So that’s why when you look back at it, me and Hendo had a little moment together when we celebrated as a bit of a joke.

“It’s always good to be able to score and contribute to a win; we were happy to get the win first and foremost.”

Liverpool’s victory at Watford extends their unbeaten start to the 2018/19 Premier League season to 13 games, and maintains the Reds’ position of second, only two points behind champions Manchester City.
