Jurgen Klopp reveals the impact of Xherdan Shaqiri on Liverpool squad

Jurgen Klopp has praised Xherdan Shaqiri for the impact he’s made on the Liverpool squad since his arrival from Stoke City in the summer.

Shaqiri has scored six goals from 16 shots so far this season, starting eight games and appearing as a sub in a further six.

The Switzerland international also scored twice against Manchester United to break Liverpool’s winless run against Manchester United in the Premier League.

Klopp has credited the versatile midfielder for not only adapting his own game since his arrival, but also changing the overall game of the rest of the team when he’s on the field.

He said: “He adapts more and more to our football. With the ball he [has] changed our style.

“You can see in the moment when Shaq gets the ball in a bit of space, everyone is running. It’s because everybody expects to get the ball in behind and stuff like that.

“That’s a good sign and gives him a few options, [and] that helps of course.”

“So it’s fantastic so far, really fantastic, and there is still a lot to come. He knows that and we are in constant talks about where he can still improve his game, but with the ball he is obviously doing brilliant things.

“The goal [against Newcastle] was not maybe the most difficult goal we scored, especially not for him, but it was brilliant play: Hendo’s pass, Trent’s cross, that was really, really outstanding.

“Staying in the situation, counter-press, win the ball back – that was brilliant.
