Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is ‘inspirational’, says Jordan Henderson

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has described injured teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as inspirational, in light of his injury progress.

The former Arsenal midfielder was ruled out for the best part of a year in July after suffering damage to multiple ligaments in his knee against Roma in the semi-final of the Champions League.

His injury came at the worst possible time for both the player and the team, as the England international had just began to really thrive in his central role for Jurgen Klopp.

Jurgen Klopp admitted during Friday’s press conference that Oxlade-Chamberlain is ‘ahead of schedule’ in his recovery from the serious injury, and that he could be back in full training as soon as February.

Thanks to his hard work, Liverpool’s number 21 is already back running outside, barely eight months on from major surgery on his knee.

Henderson has heaped praise on his teammate for his attitude and maturity during such a tough time, and has described him as an ‘inspiration’ to the rest of the squad.

He said: “Maybe it is testimony to the size of his personality and impact he still has at Melwood that it was only when reading his caption it hit me we have been without him for eight months so far.

“It was typical of Ox that he took the decision to delay revealing exactly what he had done until after the season had finished, as he didn’t want anything detracting from the Champions League final or for the news to be a downer for the club and the fans.

“Knowing how tough it is makes the attitude the Ox has shown during his rehab inspirational beyond belief. He’s a massive character. Although he’s still relatively young, Ox is someone all of the dressing room look up to.”
