Links Between Liverpool Target Adrien Rabiot and Barcelona Intensify

‘Tis the season for suspected Liverpool targets to be heading elsewhere.

In case anyone had forgotten, January is almost upon us. And to herald the new year’s arrival we have the fevered conjecture and random whispers that announce the advent European football transfer window.

Next up, we have some freshly cooked up rumours surrounding Paris Saint-Germain’s persona non grata midfielder and Academy Award nominee for his role in Call Me By Your Name Adrien Rabiot. When last we checked in on young Monsieur Rabiot, Liverpool were still purportedly in conversation with PSG for the 23-year-old’s services, though the tea leaves were strongly suggesting that he would be headed to the Camp Nou instead.

Undoubtedly talented, motivated to leave his current club, and still relatively free from the ravages of Father Time, there are many who feel that Rabiot would be an excellent addition to Jürgen Klopp’s burgeoning collection of midfielders. Others wonder what exactly Rabiot would bring that Klopp doesn’t already have. No matter, for FC Barcelona, never shy about taking on the role of pantomime villains during any transfer window, are here. Reports from France and Spain suggest that a deal is all but concluded.

Dealing with both Neymar’s dad as well as Rabiot’s mum has apparently become too much for the Parisian club to handle, and they willing to let the Catalans shoulder some of the burden of dealing with pushy football parents. We certainly empathize.

Christian Pulisic seems headed to London, Juventus are taking a look at Aaron Ramsey, and now Adrien Rabiot perhaps takes his sizeable wage demands and equally sizeable hair to Barcelona. If Liverpool can somehow ride this wave of festive fixtures and still be ahead of Manchester City following their top-of-the-table clash on January 3, 2019, there will no doubt be hordes of supporters clamoring for reinforcement to see the job through to its end.

Klopp and Liverpool have proven themselves to be impervious to those noises in the past, where they felt that the situation did not call for action. But the club might be heading into uncharted territory very soon - could a few new deckhands be of assistance?
