Liverpool stars send messages of support to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly

Liverpool forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have sent messages of support to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly after the defender was on the receiving end of alleged racial abuse when his side faced Inter Milan on boxing day.

Koulibaly was sent off in the match, with manager Carlo Ancelotti revealing he felt his player was ‘on edge’ due to the abuse.

The Italian also revealed he tried to have the match suspended three times, and despite announcements being made in the stadium, the officials took no action.

Salah and Mane took to social media to send messages of support to the defender.

Salah wrote on Twitter: “There’s no place for racism in football. There’s no place for racism anywhere at all.”

The two players were engaged in a hotly-contested battle at Anfield only a few weeks ago as Liverpool qualified for the Champions League thanks to the Egyptians goal, but the two stand in unity against racism.

Mane had an extended message for his international teammate, which he delivered via Instagram.

He wrote: “I am bitter not to say bruised and dismayed by what you have experienced,” he said.

“But I know you well enough that these abominable acts will not reach you at all. We are proud of our race and we will continue to defend it as we defend the colours of our homeland.

“You reminded the world that identity does not compartmentalise.”
