Paul Merson backs Liverpool in for big Boxing Day victory

Pundit Paul Merson has backed Liverpool in to win big against Newcastle United at Anfield come Boxing Day.

The Reds will be looking to maintain the four-point gap at the top of the table by defeating the Magpies.

It is a slightly different scenario for Newcastle who find themselves 15th in the league, and they will no doubt be looking to avoid relegation this season, meaning a point at Anfield could be invaluable.

Merson told Sky Sports: “I watched Newcastle against Fulham, they never looked like scoring in a month of Sundays and they were playing against the worst defence in the world!

“So this would be the biggest shock of the season if they won here. Newcastle will defend for so long, but then it will not be enough.

“3-0.”
