Klopp Talk; Alberto Moreno Will Start Against Wolves

He’s part of what is expected to be a number of changes.

It’s fair to say things have stalled in Alberto Moreno’s Liverpool career. Having been fully and completely displaced in the starting eleven by Andrew Robertson, and seemingly expecting to move away when his contract runs out in the summer, it seems like his remaining games will now be nothing more than a farewell tour for the full back known in one Liverpool Offside writer’s home as “Albertom”.

“[Moreno] is an unbelievable professional person and really important in the dressing-room. He is from the positive side from the planet and is in very good shape”, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp told the Daily Mail. “He loves training with all the boys. Alberto will play, no doubt about that”.

It’s hard to argue with Klopp’s logic here in a situation where we are likely to see a number of changes. The league title is on the line. The Champions League kicks in again next month. The truth remains that the FA Cup should be a lower priority than these competitions.

Speaking of some of the other selection choices, Klopp insisted that “It’s an incredibly important competition. When you get to the quarter-finals and semi-finals it’s so difficult, like Champions League games. You don’t win the trophy in one game but we want to get there. We have to play with the right intensity.

“Wolves away is a really tough draw. I don’t think they will make changes, they have a very tuned team”.

It’s true that Wolves, with their strong league position keeping them far away from relegation, do not have much reason to rotate, so this will be difficult for a rotated Liverpool. Simon Mignolet is set to start in goal, while any of Ki-Jana Hoever, Rafa Camacho and Curtis Jones could be in line to make their debuts. It’s going to be one we’re just going to have to get through before we return to the competitions that really matter.
