Jurgen Klopp explains why three key Liverpool stars were absent from training

Liverpool midfielders James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho were all absent from the first team training session in Marbella and were rested as a precaution, explains manager Jurgen Klopp.

The trio all started against Bournemouth and with the title race run beginning to hot up and Champions League knockout fixtures against Bayern Munich beckoning, Klopp needs as many of his senior players fit as possible.

He explained to the club’s official website that Milner and Wijnaldum completed a separate session in the hotel as they look to return from illness while Fabinho was absent due to a minor muscle complaint but will return to training this week.

The manager told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s how it is after games, you have a couple of problems.

“Millie and Gini still struggle with their illnesses, so they did a bit of work in the hotel. Fabinho felt [something] a little bit; it will not be a problem, but there was no reason for him to be out today.

“Hopefully he can train tomorrow and if not then the day after that. None of them are serious, all will be fine.”
