Liverpool receive major injury boost ahead of crunch Manchester United clash

Liverpool have the chance to go back to the top of the Premier League with a win over Manchester United and will be encouraged by injuries that their rivals picked up against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

The last time the two sides met, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds could easily have left Anfield with a 5-0 win over what was then a Jose Mourinho-led United but Ole Gunnar Solskjær has done a fantastic job in restoring his players’ confidence in attacking spaces.

That said, the Old Trafford outfit has its fair share of defensive frailties and after a fluid performance against Bournemouth, Liverpool will be licking their lips at the thought of coming up against the United backline.

Jesse Lingard was replaced by Alexis Sanchez during Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to PSG due to what appeared to be a hamstring issue while Anthony Martial was withdrawn for Juan Mata after sustaining a groin injury in the first half.

Following the defeat at Old Trafford, Solskjær said: “You don’t know, muscular injuries – hamstring, groin, so we’ll have to have a couple of days to assess them.”

United are undeniably in fine attacking form so if the Red Devils are missing a couple of their key forwards or midfielders when Liverpool visit Old Trafford in two weeks that will be a big boost for the Reds in their bid to win the Premier League for the first time.
