Everton’s Silva Looking At “Fantastic Opportunity” To Change History

Jürgen Klopp isn’t the only manager looking to harness powerful emotions in a positive way today.

We’ve focused on Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp’s preparations for this weekend’s key clash against neighbors Everton, but Marco Silva is planning to make some waves of his own. The Everton manager is coming off an encouraging midweek victory of his own, with his squad having put together a comfortable 3-0 performance away to Cardiff City.

It will be Silva’s first time calling the shots in a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, and is hoping to both draw on a raucous home support as well as give those fans something to cheer about on the 233rd occasion of this meeting. The traveling supporters caught Silva’s eye during the clash with Cardiff City, and the manager is starting to sense how big of a role they could play against Liverpool.

“The support at Cardiff was fantastic,” said Silva to Everton’s website. “To be honest, it is a fantastic feeling when you can give them what they deserve.”

“It is everything I want and it is my desire for each match to give them what they deserve. That moment, playing away, a long journey for them, we could give them a good feeling and a good win.”

Of course, it wouldn’t just be any other “good win.” This is a Liverpool side gunning for the big prize, in control of their own destiny. Everton have a chance to snatch that control out of Liverpool’s grasp, and to do so at Goodison Park would be of some significance to the supporters, to put it mildly.

“It is a new game and a fantastic opportunity for us to change history, respecting our opponent but also looking at ourselves and what we can do,” added Silva. “And believing we are able to compete with them and do everything to win the match.”
