It’s Time for Liverpool to “Bounce Back” Following Disappointing Draws
The past can’t be changed. It’s time to focus on Burnley.
It’s time for Liverpool to bounce back. That’s Gini Wijnaldum’s message as Liverpool prepare to face Burnley in the Premier League following a disappointing week that saw them drop four points in draws against rivals Everton and Manchester United.
“We have nine games remaining,” Wijnaldum said, taking to Twitter to deliver his message to the fans. “We’ll keep working to keep the pressure on and fight as hard as we can for this title. We’re back at Anfield this Sunday, looking to bounce back.”
While those dropped points—and going from three points ahead of Manchester City to one behind—are certainly disappointing, the important thing now is to not let that gap grow any bigger than it is. Nothing less than a victory on Sunday will do.
With nine games to go and City having a harder run-in on paper at least, Liverpool will believe their title rivals will slip up at some point. It might be this match week or the one after that or the one after that but it will happen sooner or later.
At least that’s what Liverpool’s players will be telling themselves now. And when it does, Liverpool will need to win their next game, not taking their foot off as they have far too often now since the calendar rolled over from 2018 to 2019.
That all starts on Sunday, at Anfield, against Burnley. No matter what happens to City in their match against Watford, Liverpool need to bounce back and put their inconsistent recent form behind them once and for all.
