Sadio Mane Almost Went to Manchester United

Sadio signed for Liverpool three years ago today.

Liverpool made a transfer three years ago this date that ended up being pretty good, I’d say. On June 28th, 2016 Liverpool signed Sadio Mane for a transfer fee of £37.08m and the rest is history. But, did you know that Sadio almost signed for Manchester United?

“Of course, I spoke with Van Gaal, and they even made an offer. Sadio said. “But for me it was not the right club, it was not the right moment.

“To feel this - the right moment, the right coach, the right club.

“There was interest from a lot of clubs, not just Manchester United, but as soon as I knew Liverpool were interested I just felt it was the right club with the right coach. It was right for me to come here.”

Obviously, things would be incredibly different if Liverpool hadn’t signed the star winger. At the time Liverpool were linked with Mario Götze who is a completely different type of player. One could argue that Sadio Mane was the transfer that kick-started this team to become this team.
