Matip: “I’m looking forward and we are confident”

Joel Matip is confident that Liverpool’s US tour has helped the squad “get back in the mood”, despite the Reds winning no games over the course of the short overseas trip.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten by Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla before earning a 2-2 draw against Sporting Lisbon yesterday.

But the Reds centre-back believes the three-game tour was beneficial in terms of match fitness, at the very least.

“It was an intense period with good opponents and we worked hard to get a better fitness level and to get back in the mood,” Matip told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We still have a lot of work to do and we are working hard. I’m looking forward and we are confident.

“We know it’s a long way to go and we still have a lot to improve, but we’re on a good way.”
