Liverpool Echo rate chances of January transfer business

Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst believes that Jurgen Klopp will only turn to the January transfer window if the Reds are really struggling at the time.

The Merseysiders have lost just one game this season, a 2-0 defeat in Naples, and everything seems to be going according to plan but fixture congestion in December could change that dramatically.

Liverpool have 10 games across the festive period, including a trip to Qatar to play two games in the FIFA Club World Cup, so Klopp will be monitoring the fitness of his players very carefully.

If Liverpool are somehow scourged by a fitness plague or illness, the Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst believes that Klopp could dip into the transfer market but as things stand, no transfers are planned.

He told the Liverpool Echo live blog on Wednesday: “That all depends on how Liverpool are faring at the time. I think it will take a huge unforeseen struggle for Klopp to delve into the market for significant reinforcements in the January window.

“The club have spent a shedload to renew contracts of virtually every member of the first team over the past 18 months and Klopp has previously said how that does impact on the budget.

“If you were to ask me, I feel another versatile attacker is perhaps needed to complete this squad, but it is hard to grumble too much with the Reds six points clear right now.”
