Liverpool Reportedly Agree Deal for Fluminense Goalkeeper

The Reds are close to wrapping up a £1.8M deal for 17-year-old Brazilian stopper Marcelo Pitaluga

Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation, at least in the short- to medium-term, seems quite thoroughly settled. After all, with Alisson Becker, they’ve got arguably the best goalkeeper in the world between the sticks.

That doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking about the future, at least according to reports out of Brazil that claim the Reds have agreed a £1.8M deal (with a 25% sell-on fee) with Fluminense for 17-year-old Marcelo Pitaluga.

In Brazil, Liverpool have been linked with the youngster—currently the understudy to Muriel Becker, Alisson’s brother—since the start of the year, with local reports claiming coronavirus has in fact expedited the deal.

Another factor at play is that Pitaluga has two years left on his youth contract and a German passport—and that means he can now play anywhere in Europe, though Brexit could change the equation for England.

With Fluminense in need of money and the Becker connection, then, Pitaluga appears headed to Liverpool, though it’s said the expectation is that he will be allowed to develop for a good five or six seasons.

Over that much time certainly a lot can change, but if Liverpool are spending £1.8M to bring in a 17-year-old goalkeeper with an eye to five or six years down the road, one imagines the club think very highly of him.
