James Milner Believes the Reds Will Bounce Back

The miserable 7-2 defeat against Aston Villa is only a brief setback, the vice-captain promised.

The comedy of errors and fascinating horror of Liverpool’s visit to Villa Park, where the Reds conceded a ridiculous seven goals to the home team, is not a game that will be soon forgotten.

But your favorite uncle, Liverpool vice-captain James Milner, posted to Instagram that we should buck up and bounce back.

“Nowhere near the level needed yesterday. We need to stand up, take everything on the chin, stick together and bounce back...and we will,” Milner promised in his message to fans after the game.

A startling understatement to watching the Reds get eviscerated by Aston Villa, but Milner’s calm in the face of such a calamity is oddly soothing in its own way. I feel like he just gave me an encouraging punch on the shoulder and told me to buck up.

The players have a week away on international duty to get their heads back while also playing for their countries and trying not to be the next Liverpool player who contracts COVID. Meanwhile, we’ve got two weeks to handle our own shock at what unfolded before our eyes on Sunday. Hopefully we’ll all be back and ready to make a point in the Merseyside derby when the Premier League resumes.
