Rumor Mongering: All Quiet On The Mbappe Front

Liverpool are said to not be in for the French superstar. Also, the ocean is wet.

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool are “not pushing” for the signature of Kylian Mbappe. Likewise, I have ended my interested in Taylor Swift.

Of course, Mbappe has become a bit of an obsession with Liverpool fans (as well as many fan bases across Europe). He is undoubtedly one of the few attacking players that would make Liverpool’s already fluid and prolific attack better.

Over the past 5 or so season, the Reds have been linked on and off with the World Cup winner, and it’s not difficult to see why.

However, it has been more than obvious to any observers that such a move would come with a massive transfer fee. Although that is not the case here—Mbappe would be able to agree to a move on a free transfer as early as January 1st, 2024—he would be on massive wages. Indeed, his wages would break any semblance of structure that FSG have spent the better part of a decade carefully constructing.

The only possible wild card here is if Saudi Arabia come back in for Mohamed Salah with an eye-watering offer, one that would make the finances possible to shift Mo in favor of Mbappe. On the other hand, given the Egyptian King’s output in front of goal this season, and Liverpool’s resurgence as a top tier domestic and international threat, such a move might not be one that any party really wants.
