Missy Bo Kearns Wants More With the Reds
The Scouser is looking to make more good memories against Bristol City.
In April of 2022, the perfect end to a nearly perfect season came when hometown girl Missy Bo Kearns scored the final goal in a 4-2 victory away to Bristol City. That goal ensured that the Reds once again returned to the WSL after spending two years demoted to the Championship.
On Sunday, the Reds will once again return to Ashton Gate for their second crack at Bristol City this season. The first came just a few weeks ago in the form of a 1-1 draw. This one is the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Kearns hopes to remain focused and start 2024 off right by advancing in the domestic cup competition. This becomes more important because of their poor performance in the Continental Cup group stages, which seems them sat fourth out of six teams with one match remaining.
“Obviously it will be special to go back [to Ashton Gate], to the place where we won the league,” Kearns agreed. “But this is a different game, it’s a cup competition with it being the FA Cup, so it’s not going to be easy. But we want to progress to the next round. It’s not what we did then but it’s, ‘What can we do now?’ I think that’s the most important thing and it’s having our mindset as, ‘That was great but let’s make more memories there and progress to the next round because we want to be winning silverware again this year.’”
In the WSL, Liverpool are sitting in the top half of the table, but are unlikely to get in front of Chelsea, Manchester City, or Arsenal to make any sort of a title challenge. That’s still a positive outcome after only two seasons back in the top flight, but the fact remains that the FA Cup is the only silverware left for the Reds to realistically fight for this season.
While the men are on their winter break or off on international duty, the women return after their own break. The Reds are back in action to kick off a busy end to January this Sunday.
