The Scotsman has left an indelible mark in his time on Merseyside.

Andrew Robertson has been a mainstay and key contributor to Liverpool’s successes during its most recent stretch of scintillating football. Today, he celebrated his 7th season as a Red.

It’s hard to put into perspective all that Robbo has done and meant to the club. One could consider things numerically, as the official site has. And I wouldn’t argue given how truly overwhelming the numbers are in helping to underscore his importance to this great Liverpool side.

One record, in particular, that remains so transfixing to me is that Robbo currently holds the mark for most Premier League assists by a defender at 59 - for those keeping score at home, Trent Alexander-Arnold has 58. We have seen over the course of seven years, a case for one of the best left-backs in Premier League history.

For me, though, the thing that I love the most about Robbo is his shithousery. He manages to wind people up so well, express that he’s not one to fuck with (it’s the way his eyes belie a deep wildness that is barely being restrained), and that he does all of that while walking a fine line. Despite his obvious reputation for being able to give folks stick on the pitch, I can’t recall Robbo spending much time on the sidelines due to sendings off or card accumulation. He is a master of the shithouse.

In truth, I can’t express what Robbo means because it’s rare that you look at a player that manages to fill a role that had previously been so difficult to fill. In fact, it may be hard to remember now, but before Robbo, Liverpool turned to the likes of Aly Cissokho or converted right backs to fill that gap.

Robbo represented the end of a long quest; the nabbing of a coveted treasure. And he’s only delivered priceless performances since his arrival. Long may he stay on Merseyside!
