Interest in Chiesa Confirmed but “Exploratory” — While Mamardashvili Undergoes Medical
The transfer deadline looms
Earlier today football-rumors influencer and self-made socials personality Fabrizio Romano released an exclusive report stating Liverpool had expressed interest in Federico Chiesa of Juventus, who is in the final year of his contract.
Hours later, journalists likely briefed by the club confirmed the reports in part, with James Pearce clarifying that the reported interest is “exploratory at this stage.”
The winger is valued at around £15 million, though his injury record and high wages ask a number of questions — particularly as he would come into the side as a wide attacking option, an area the Reds are not lacking in at present.
In discussing the seriousness of the links, Pearce looked to downplay the club’s interest, noting that the exploratory label rises to the level equal to interest “with several other players who could be transfer targets in this window or in the future.”
Chiesa played a full season with Juventus last year following his return from an ACL injury sustained back in January 2022.
While this story unfolds, Giorgi Mamardashvili has traveled to Liverpool for a medical today after Liverpool and Valencia agreed to terms (reportedly €30million plus €5m in add-ons and an agreement to stay on loan in Spain for the season).
Though this deal seems one looking forward into the future, with Alisson firmly in place as the club’s No 1, it does ask questions about Caoimhín Kelleher’s future in this and the following transfer window.
Expect the Mamardashvili deal to be confirmed imminently, and expect Chiesa to become concrete on the club’s side if and only if the money is right — à la the Thiago deal.
