Pep Lijnders collects one more talented Liverpool youngster and pips Barcelona in the process.

Liverpool are sending one more promising young player from Melwood to Pep Lijnders and Red Bull Salzburg, as holding midfielder Stefan Bajcetic will be joining Bobby Clark in Austria. Thankfully, though, this is just a loan deal with the Spanish midfielder hoping to regain his form after missing nearly all of last season recovering from a major injury.

Liverpool seem on the verge of signing Federic Chiesa from Juventus, but a fan might be forgiven the mild critique that we still seem to be shedding midfielders despite it being a position of need. It might be worth remembering, though, that it’s likely better for Bajcetic’s own progression to be some place where they are more likely to see regular match action, especially given the long layoff.

More, for those that are maybe still upset at Liverpool’s transfer business: it could be worse.

La Liga giant Barcelona were reported to be attempting to hijack the loan move given a major injury to one of their own young prospects. Unfortunately, according to reporting, Barcelona weren’t able to finalize the deal, allowing for Pep to be reunited with the young midfielder. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get pipped swinging for the fences than whiff on a loan deal with a team from Austria your only competition.

We wish young Stefan well, hoping that he remains healthy and manages to build himself back up to the kind of form that had folks ready to have him deputize a still in-form Fabinho.
