The rising star Georgia and Valencia goalkeeper would be loaned out for the coming season if the Reds signed him.

Liverpool could be set to complete their first signing of the summer shortly with Georgia and Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili rumoured to be the target of a €30M bid, but if he is signed he is unlikely to play for the Reds this season.

Instead, if the deal were to be completed the 23-year-old widely considered the standout shot stopper at Euro 2024 would be loaned right back out for at least the 2024-25 season, with Bournemouth rumoured to be his likely destination.

That’s the story from local Valencia journalists, and if a deal is done the Reds would be getting a physically dominant goalkeeper seen as one of the most talented and promising of his age group—though the move would invite questions.

First amongst them would be how exactly Mamardashvili fits in with world class Alisson Becker at the club and still just 31 years old, which for a goalkeeper one would expect to mean at least two to three more peak seasons, possibly more.

In the short-term at least, a loan move to Bournemouth—which has an obvious connection by way of new Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes—could well help the player get up to speed in the Premier League and to improve his English.

Paying €30M to sign a rising star stopper and keeping him at another club for more than just the coming campaign, though, would be a head-scratcher, and such a series of moves would signal the coming season might be Alisson’s last at Anfield.

Alisson’s contract runs through the summer of 2027, but with the departure of manager Jürgen Klopp and goalkeeping coach John Achterberg this summer there were whispers about a potential move to Spain as well as Saudi Arabia interest.

The Reds ensured mentor Cláudio Taffarel stayed on staff to ease the transition for Alisson, but signing Mamardashvili and stashing him at Bournemouth would only make sense if the club were preparing for Alisson to depart next summer.
