A foot injury last week will see the young attacking midfielder out until late October as the fixtures start to pile up for Liverpool.

While his opportunities may have been limited in Liverpool’s first three Premier League games of the 2024-25 season under new manager Arne Slot, as one of the Reds’ top pre-season performers before all the senior stars returned hopes were high for Harvey Elliott.

With Champions League play and the League Cup starting up following the September international break and Liverpool set to play two games a week for the foreseeable future, Elliott was expected to start getting plenty of chances in the ten over the coming weeks.

Now, though, Elliott faces a significant setback and an expected six-week layoff as the result of a fractured foot, an injury suffered in training either at Liverpool shortly before joining up with England’s U21s or soon after the player’s arrival at the Young Lions camp last week.

Having complained of discomfort, Elliott was sent home shortly after arriving and the club have now confirmed that scans of his foot revealed a fracture and with it an expected recovery period of around six weeks right as the games begin to pile up for Liverpool.

In his absence, Dominik Szoboszlai will continue to be first choice in the ten but will need breaks which could see a reshuffled front line and minutes for the likes of Darwin Nuñez, Federico Chiesa, and Cody Gakpo or a midfielder like Alexis Mac Allister pushing forward.
