Liverpool’s captain had some inspiring thoughts to share ahead of Sunday’s potentially title-clinching clash against Spurs.

Liverpool are one point away from securing their second Premier League title in 5 years, and doing so in what is essentially a trot given there will still be 4 matches remaining after today. More, Sunday’s match at Anfield takes on added significance given that the last win happened during COVID restrictions, meaning the fans never got to celebrate with the team in the way we’d have expected. So, when Virgil van Dijk mentions in his program notes for the match that “[This match] means everything,” it’s not exactly hyperbole.

Liverpool’s captain basically goes on to mention precisely that extra layer of gravity of potentially sealing the title in front of the Kop in his letter to the fans.

“To win the Premier League is special, however and wherever you do it. But to do it at Anfield, in front of the most incredible supporters in the world? That’s something else entirely. It’s our dream, it’s your dream, and our aim on Sunday is to make sure that dream comes true.”

The World’s Best Centerback goes on to insist that Liverpool will fight to remain focused - even with all of that additional pressure and narrative - to deliver the most important piece: a title to the fans of Liverpool Football Club.

I’m not personally worried about focus - which isn’t me saying a win is guaranteed! I’m merely saying that, time and again, Arne Slot’s Liverpool have managed to remain locked-in over the course of the season and are on the verge of bringing home the most coveted prize at the end of it all.

Here’s hoping that the Reds manage to come through and accomplish exactly what they’d hoped for: claiming the Premier League trophy whilst celebrating in front of the Anfield faithful.
